Talks on business

I didn't jump into running a business but was pushed. My talks on business can cover anything from how I sort of sidled into being a self-employed book keeper as the quickest way to get work, how my hobby turned turned into a business when I wasn't looking, and how I became an accidental publisher of ebooks. So, no cunning plan then!

Having been feral now for a couple of decades, I'm happy to share stories such as how I became probably the only musician to be booked to play on, in and under the English Channel, and about the time I delivered a collapsible igloo to a Chinese Elvis impersonator.

Running your own business can bring huge enjoyment and satisfaction. Who says work shouldn't be fun? And the security of a fixed income can become a liability if you find you need more income than your job will pay.

The average start up has a poor chance of success however. About 4% actually manage to survive to the ten-year milestone, and the reasons are usually the same. Find out over the course of an evening where the problems lie, how to protect your future and the virtually bullet-proof method I've tested over and over that lets you keep your shirt if things go all pear-shaped.

From practical advice about book keeping and logistics, to getting the best deals, protecting yourself, where to get help and information - even what would be your ideal business - the talk would be based on reality, rather than theory. Hear about the one change that increased my turnover, even though rivals said I would go bankrupt, and how to get an unpaid sales force.
