Frequently Asked Questions

'How many pages will my ebook have'?
How high is a pint of water? One of the beauties of an ebook is flexibility. The reader decides on what device (and therefore what screen size) they read it on, and what font size to use. These both affect how many pages will be displayed. It is better to measure the length of an ebook by the number of words it contains, and a location by a percentage into it.

'How much will it cost to create an ebook?
It depends on how 'clean' the file is. A Word.doc file that has been set up properly, with only a few styles used will take about three to four hours to get ready in both formats, (see 'My services' for current rates) load to both Smashwords and Kindle, get the Smashwords ISBN number and discount codes, set up the correct category tags, add the descriptions, load the cover images and then buy a copy from Kindle and check both finished files. I can give a firm quote after seeing the documents to be converted.

'How much will it cost to create a web site?
To research the best key words and domain name, convert and import images, set up internal and external links and build a basic shell will take anything from a couple of hours on (see 'My services' for current rates) - it all depends how large and complicated the site will be, and if you would like to include 'Contact me' and 'Sign up' options. I would expect the average site to take about five hours to construct, and then allow about an hour to talk you through how to set up and change pages, the overall look and things like the heading and the buttons. The cheapest option is to do as much as you can, then 'phone / email with a list of specific queries/problems.

'Don't people take advantage of you because of the full guarantee on all your work'?
Very rarely, and I'd rather lose a bit of time if it gets rid of the dodgy characters right at the start. I always offer a full, 'no quibble' guarantee on my work. It helps to build up a solid working relationship, and someone has to make the first move to establish trust.

'What forms of payment do you take'?
Bank transfer, U.K. cheque, cash or PayPal, whichever is the most convenient for you. Also happy considering 'swapsies' - depending on what is on offer...
